I am Elizabeth, a folk witch, spiritworker, priest, and writer, but what does any of that mean?
Folk Witch & Spirit Worker
As a second-generation witch who was raised in one of the largest witchcraft populations, I have been immersed in witchcraft for the majority of my life. This mostly came in the form of recognition of the spirits around me and knowledge of the work that could be done with them. While my craft has changed quite a bit throughout my life, the core of that has always been true.
I am a New England-based folk witch, which essentially means that my practice is rooted in the folk practices of those who lived on this land before me and my ancestors. For me, this is a blend of English Cunning practices, French Canadian folk practices (my ancestry), working with and tending to the spirits of place, and largely working with the tools that are available around me. Spirit work is the cornerstone of my practice, and all things are done through their guidance.
Through this work, I developed my own form of bone reading (or lots casting), utilizing bones, stones, and curios that are linked to these spirits, in order to have conversations with them through the lens of my world cosmology. This allows for in-depth prescriptive insight into the work that needs to be done around any situation.
Writer
I have been weaving stories for as long as I have been able to speak. Whether it was telling the stories of the dead while picnicking in cemeteries, writing short stories, or being plagued by lines of poetry, I express myself most authentically through the written word.
This has traditionally taken the form of poetry and fiction writing, but in recent years, I have taken to writing more about witchcraft in the form of articles and short-form posts. I also work as an editor for an occult publisher, which allows me to live my dream of being paid to read witchcraft books!
Priest & Minister
Ultimately, these are community titles, and not ones I take lightly. Anyone can call themselves a priest or priestess, but if they are not serving those roles within the community, what are they being used for? In my case, I wear these roles by facilitating public rituals, teaching workshops and classes, performing life ceremonies (such as handfastings/weddings), co-facilitating large community events and retreats (such as TempleFest, Salem Witchfest, and local psychic faires), and more. I have a strong belief that if I am benefiting from a community, then I am obligated to give back to it in whatever way I can, and I have been blessed to do this work many times over.
